The Birch Grove Schools’ Halloween parades will be Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019.

BG Primary Parade begins at 8:45

BG Intermediate Parade begins at 10:15

ALL STUDENTS SHOULD WEAR THEIR COSTUMES TO SCHOOL. Teachers will not have time to assist with make-up or any other aspect of your student’s costume so please be sure your student is “parade ready” when arriving at school.

At BGP: Students will sit on the blacktop and each grade level will parade, two classes at a time, in front of all the grade levels. This way every student will see each other’s costumes and have an audience to parade for.

At BGI: Parents and family may go to the blacktop through the courtyard by the cafeteria and gather around the edges of the blacktop.  The students will parade through the courtyards and then around the blacktop, so the best place for parents and family to view them is at the edge of the blacktop. (Do not block the courtyard doors or walkways.)

Parents who are attending parades at both campuses are encouraged to walk between the two campuses or park on Birch St. due to limited parking in the lots.

  • Students will need to change out of their costumes after the parade so please send a bag to school for their costumes; students must be able to change by themselves. Teachers will not be able to help.
  • DO NOT congregate in the courtyards or in the direct line of the parade
  • Please be sure your child’s costume is in good taste- no blood or gore that could potentially scare the little ones.

  • NO WEAPONS OR FAKE WEAPONS (guns, swords, daggers, etc.)
  • NO MASKS of any kind, nothing may cover the student face. Face paint should be applied as minimally as possible.
  • NO electronic devices
  • NO wheeled transportation-scooters, roller blades, heelies, roller skates, etc.

Thank you for your cooperation and have a safe Halloween!

If you child will not be participating in the parade, each site will have an alternative activity; at BGP in room 28 and at BGI in room 8. Please let your teacher know ahead of time that your child will need to go to the alternative activity.

As we come back to school for the new school year, please take the time to remind students about safety and how to prevent stranger danger, especially if students walk to and from school.

When you can, please take some family time to go over the prevention tips listed below, and teach your children to become aware of dangerous people and the lures they use to entice them.   Remind students to please be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious behavior to their family so you or the school can notify the police.

  1. Don’t walk to/from school alone. Always stick with a group.
  2. Don’t take shortcuts.
  3. If someone approaches you, yell and run.
  4. Don’t talk to strangers.
  5. Don’t accept rides from anyone without parent permission (establishing a family code works will work for emergency situations).
  6. If something unusual happens to you or one of your friends, tell an adult immediately.
  7. Identify a place that you can run to for safety if needed (i.e. a neighbor’s house or a public place).
  8. Never stay to write down the license number of the vehicle. Report what you remember to an adult.

Be straightforward, yet caring. Emphasize that dangerous people may only pretend to be nice. They try to trick children so they can possibly do bad things to them. Dangerous people can be big or small, old or young. They can be men or women, boys or girls. Our school will continue to support our students with safety drills and we appreciate your support with this important work.

  1. No caminar solos a la escuela o a la casa. Siempre estar en grupo.
