California Health Kids Survey logo

Newark Unified is participating in the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) this school year.

CHKS is an anonymous, confidential survey of school climate and safety, student wellness, and youth resiliency. It is administered to students at grades five, seven, nine, and eleven. It enables schools and communities to collect and analyze data regarding local youth health risks and behaviors, school connectedness, school climate, protective factors, and school violence.

Please contact your student’s school office directly to obtain access to the parent/guardian survey; follow this link to learn more about CHKS: https://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/he/at/chks.asp.

There has been a change in the first day of school for next school year, 2019-2020.

The first day of school will be Thursday, August 15, 2019.

Walk-through registration for Birch Grove is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, August 8, 2019. These dates are a full week earlier than school has begun in the past. Please keep these dates in mind when making your summer vacation plans to be sure your student is present on the first day of school. If your student is not present on the first day of school, August 15, 2019, you run the risk of losing their space at Birch Grove.
